Nairobi, Kenya 2024
Shawn and Joshua are just two 16-year-old sophomores looking to make an impact. We hope to bring football halfway across the world into the Kibagare Slum of Nairobi, Kenya, and have a blast doing it. Our mission consists of bringing resources to a school in need (linked below). We're hoping to give as much as we can but we can only do it with your help!
Shawn and Joshua plan to leave for Kenya near the end of July to bring Football supplies and smiles to the slums, but we need your help. Donations of any kind would help our mission.
Through donations made from our GoFundMe (linked below), we hope to give school supplies and uniforms to disadvantaged students in the Kibagare Slum. The goal of this mission will be a well-supplied and, more importantly, happy school after our visit.
Please share our message with friends & family, and feel free to donate!
We started our mission in the Kibagare Slums at Saint Martins school. We spent two days training with the kids for two hours each day, it was really fun and we got to see some impressive young talent throughout our time spent there. We used most of the money donated through our GoFundMe to support the school with new uniforms for the next and oncoming school years as well as giving them some new soccer balls and a gift of bread and soda that they'll take home with them. It's all thanks to everybody's support that made any of this possible so we'd like to thank each and every one of you.
Our first day at Green Kenya was spent meeting all of the staff associated with the organization and planning out the training session for the following day. We also shared with them all the soccer equipment that our communities in Dunstable, Groton and Winchester donated. We brought 3 large suitcases full of soccer cleats, balls, pinnies, shin guards, socks, cones and goalie equipment. In addition, we gave them some money from our GoFundMe for soccer nets to put on their goal posts. Once again a special thanks to everyone who took their time and resources to donate to this cause! Once finished we took a small trip to see their current soccer field and closed out the day.
On day 2 we got onto the field to train with most of the kids. We were there from 8:30am - 12:30am and had two groups throughout the session, 2 hours for each group. We got the chance to play with them and both groups displayed a high level of skill and knowledge of the game for their age. The kids were given new balls and cleats if they had been playing in sneakers before today.
Day 3 was our last day, today we helped Green Kenya referee some of their friendly games against another organization. We got to experience the tense, lively, and physical parts of soccer throughout the entire day firsthand. After that we used some of the money given through our GoFundMe to supply the kids with bread, milk, and a banana. We made lots of good memories and met a lot of great people in the 3 days we were with Green Kenya, truly an experience we won't forget. We couldn't have done it without the help of all of the people who donated, so from both of us and everyone at Saint Martins School/Green Kenya, thank you!
Send us a message or ask me a question, I will do my best to get back to you as soon as possible!
